Weekly Themes
Week 1 – Roots of Rhythm: From the Body to the Drum/ Raíces del Ritmo: Del Cuerpo al Tambor - Students explore the foundations of music through body percussion before transferring those skills to drums. Through playful, hands-on activities, they connect their natural sense of rhythm to instruments while building coordination and confidence. This week introduces music as something we feel, move to, and create together.
Week 2 – Music and Storytelling: Telling Stories Without Words/ Música y Narrativa: Contar Historias Sin Palabras - Students discover how music can tell powerful stories without words. Through sound, movement, and imagination, they create musical scenes and express emotions in creative ways. They learn how rhythm, melody, and movement work together to communicate ideas and bring stories to life.
Week 3 – Creating While We Play: Imagine, Improvise, and Compose/ Creando mientras jugamos: Imagina, improvisa y compone - Students step into the role of young composers as they explore musical creation. Through games, improvisation, and collaboration, they develop their own rhythmic patterns and melodic ideas, leading to short compositions. This week fosters creativity and builds confidence in expressing original musical ideas.
Week 4 – Stories Through Sound: Understanding Folk Music/ Historias por medio del sonido: Entendiendo la Música Folklórica - In the final week, students explore how music reflects culture, traditions, and community. They experience folk music from different places and time periods, discovering the stories behind the sounds. Through singing, movement, and playing instruments, students connect with musical traditions from around the world while developing a sense of identity, belonging, and cultural awareness.

Enfoque:

Focus:

Students explore music as a form of expression, culture, and creativity through the Orff approach. Rooted in the philosophy of Carl Orff, this process emphasizes learning through play, movement, singing, improvisation, and exploration. Students engage with the roots of rhythm by using the body as an instrument and connecting movement to singing & drumming. They experience how music can tell stories without words through sound, gesture, and imagination. Through playful and creative activities, students improvise, compose, and collaborate, while also exploring how folk music reflects traditions, culture, and community across time.

Destrezas generales:

Core Skills:

Students develop foundational musical skills such as steady beat, rhythm patterns, and body percussion, while building coordination and ensemble awareness. Through the Orff approach, they strengthen their ability to learn by doing. Combining speech, movement, drama, and music in an integrated way. Students grow in confidence as they improvise, create, and express ideas through sound and movement. Throughout the process, they practice listening, musical memory, and collaboration, while engaging in basic composition through rhythm and melody. This approach supports a deeper understanding of how music communicates ideas, reflects culture, and encourages both individual creativity and collective expression.
