Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) is designed to provide first responders, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians with the ability to assess and stabilize patients with burn injuries during the first critical hours post-injury. ABLS programs support emergency preparedness needs for disaster management. The ABLS LIVE COURSE© includes in-person, didactic lectures and hands-on simulation to reinforce learning.
Please note: Payment via the UNC Event Registration system is step ONE of a multi-step process.
In order to finalize your course registration, you MUST complete the entire registration process outlined below.

Complete ALL steps to register:
1) Each registrant must complete pre-registration & pre-payment for course via UNC Event Registration portal.
     (Groups may arrange prior institutional agreement for payment.)
     *Provide complete demographic & contact information (email & phone) for the pre-registration/pre-payment portal.
     After successful pre-payment, course coordinator will email within two business days to provide additional course instructions + unique registration link from the American Burn Association (ABA).

2) Create ABA profile (user account) with your preferred email address.
     *Provide complete demographic & contact information (email & phone) for your ABA profile.
     ABA membership is NOT required for creating ABA profile.
     ABA members should use email address associated with existing ABA profile.

3) After logging in to your ABA profile, click on the ABA registration link provided by course coordinator to add course to your ABA Shopping Cart.
     *Enter code (learn!) to ensure cost is $0.00, then complete checkout from ABA Shopping Cart.

4) After checkout, verify receipt of confirmation email from ABA.
     *If you do NOT receive confirmation email from ABA, then check spam/junk email or reread/retry directions.

To receive ABLS certificate and CEs, you must:
1) Attend entire course, and pass course assessments (≥ 80% on written exam + successful patient care scenario).

2) Complete entire post-course evaluation (link emailed by ABA within one week after course).
     *If you do NOT receive confirmation email from ABA within one week, then check spam/junk email or reread/retry directions.

3) After completion of post-course evaluation, verify that ABLS certificate and CEs appear in your ABA profile.
     *These documents are not emailed to you, and local course coordinator has no access to them.
You must complete all steps outlined above to receive and access ABLS certificate and CEs within your ABA profile.

Course highlights:
Basic information for immediate care of the burn patient, up to the first 24 hours post-injury
ABLS Manual−convenient, handy reference guide and resource for burn injury questions
Course content is appropriate for all disciplines
Application of concepts through lectures and case studies, provided by burn care professionals
Assessment of a simulated burn patient, includes a practical test
Assessment of knowledge to receive ABLS certificate
Certificate of completion provided (good for 4 years)

Learning objectives:
Evaluate a patient with a serious burn
Define the magnitude and severity of the injury
Identify and establish priorities of treatment
Manage the airway and support ventilation
Initiate and monitor fluid resuscitation
Apply correct methods of physiological monitoring
Determine which patients should be transferred to a burn center
Organize and conduct the inter-hospital transfer of a seriously injured burn patient.

American Burn Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission (ANCC) on Accreditation. The ABA designates this continuing education activity for 7.0 continuing education credit hours. The American Burn Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American Burn Association designates this educational activity for 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
