The first session of the Industry Skills Series, titled "Industry Landscape," introduces graduate students and postdocs to key aspects of the corporate world. The session features two expert speakers: the first will delve into the "Anatomy of a Company," providing insights into how companies are structured, their operations, and key functional areas. The second speaker will explore the broader "Industry Landscape & Career Options," offering an overview of various industries, emerging trends, and diverse career paths available beyond academia. This session sets the foundation for understanding industry.

About the Speakers: 
Don Rose is currently an adjunct professor at UNC-CH, and Entrepeneur in Residence at Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc., based in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park. He has extensive experience in launching and building life science startups, most recently as Director of the University of North Carolina’s KickStart program. At UNC, he helped spin out 80 companies which have gone on to raise over $500M. In addition, Dr. Rose was a Professor of the Practice at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School for 16 years, where he taught entrepreneurship. Prior to UNC, he held senior leadership roles at a number of life science startups including Metabolon, Deerac Fluidics, and DataCentric Automation. Before that, Dr. Rose was a partner with Hatteras Venture Partners), where he co-founded Phase Bioscience. Dr. Rose received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry and BS in Nutrition from the University of North Carolina.   
 
Chrissy Kinkade is Director of Industry Engagement at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has an extensive background in academic-industrial research partnership and scientific research. In this role, Chrissy works to identify the highest value industry partners and structure mutually beneficial collaboration models. These collaborations provide opportunities for new research partnerships, share complementary resources, enable co-location, develop talent exchange, and create joint ventures. Dr. Kinkade received her PhD in Neurosceince from Pennsylvania State University.
