Students from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School will gather with students from across campus to help launch a career in sustainability and to address the opportunities and risks of an environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG)-centered approach to financial decision-making.
ESG has become a major talking point for a growing number of financial and corporate firms driven by a desire for values-based investing while delivering competitive financial returns. Events include presentations from top employers in the ESG field, engaging keynote speakers, and a featured debate between top scholars on whether divestment or engagement is the better tool for affecting real change related to ESG issues. "Real change" in this case is defined as effectively encouraging companies to make a positive impact, discouraging companies from making a negative impact, or encouraging companies to tangibly improve their impact.
The symposium will convene leading experts, industry professionals, and students to:
- Critically discuss the tradeoffs and risks of stakeholder capitalism adoption and an ESG-based approach to investing;
- Raise awareness of career opportunities in the expanding ESG field;
- And gain an appreciation of the role you can play in advancing a more just and sustainable world.
Lunch and refreshments are provided. The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Undergraduate students are strongly encouraged to attend.Learn more at kenanscholars.unc.edu/ESGEvent sponsored by
