Aligning your expectations with those of your graduate students is critical to developing a productive mentoring relationship, but it can be challenging. As part of an ongoing series of trainings for faculty who mentor graduate students, this session dives into strategies to identify and communicate the expectations that mentors have of graduate students and graduate students have of mentors. During this workshop, we will introduce a tool (mentoring agreement) that mentors can use to align expectations and discuss several potential applications of that tool.

The workshop is intended for faculty who mentor graduate students. Content is adapted from TEAM ADVANCE's Faculty Mentor Training and CIMER's Entering Mentoring. The ongoing series is a collaboration between The Graduate School, Center for Faculty Excellence, TEAM ADVANCE, and the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program (School of Medicine).

Learning Objectives: Become familiar with a strategy, using a written document, to effectively establish and communicate mutually beneficial expectations for the mentoring relationship.
