This lunch and learn, lead by Gray Rodgers, will focus on several studies that examine both the adversity and sources of support LGBTQ youth find in school.  Topics covered include sex-education, bullying, academic performance, and mental health challenges of LGBTQ youth in American schools.  We will also discuss the role of teachers and school staff in promoting a healthy school climate.  School climate is found to be one of the most significant predictors of LGBTQ students’ health and academic success, yet GLSEN report reveals year after year that LGBTQ youth do not feel safe and affirmed in their school environments.  We will discuss the challenges of this research as well as important areas for future directions.  There will be time to ask questions and discuss solutions to issues raised in both research and practice for improving school climate for LGBTQ youth.

Lunch will be provided! Please register to ensure we have enough food for everyone.
