Conflict is an inevitable dimension of organizational life and managing conflict is key to being effective in almost any professional role whether in the academic institution, in the lab, or in a job setting outside the university.  Understanding the nature of conflict and building self-awareness are the first steps to being an effective conflict manager. In this workshop, participants will have an opportunity to  gain a broader understanding of the nature of organizational conflicts, assess their own preferred methods of handling conflict and to expand their repertoire of conflict management approaches. Ideally as we build our conflict management skills throughout our careers we are more and more able to resolve differences  with less friction and more benefit for our selves, our counterparts in the situation, and those we serve and represent.  Lunch provided.

The facilitator for this workshop is Dr. David Kiel, Leadership Coordinator in UNC's Center for Faculty Excellence.  He has served as a management consultant to leaders in academic organizations, scientific organizations, government, non-profit agencies and small businesses since 1985.  About 30 minutes to one hour preparation will be required for this workshop. An email will be sent to all registered participants prior to the workshop with the pre-work.

Registration closes February 9th, 2014. 5pm.
