The BCBP Department will hold its research retreat at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, NC

We’ve planned departmental talks, posters, and other activities to make for an engaging and exciting day at the museum. We look forward to the participation of each faculty member and their lab members in this excellent opportunity for scientific exchange and interaction. The program runs 8:30-5 with a happy hour from 5-6:30, and registration includes a T-shirt. September 28, 2022 is the deadline to register and submit abstracts. Monetary awards of $100 will be presented for trainee posters and speakers in the categories of best oral and best poster presentations for a graduate student and for a post-doctoral associate.

Our Keynote speaker will be Dr. Mary Munson, Professor and Vice Chair of Diversity in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biotechnology at the UMass Chan Medical School. Her research focuses on understanding the regulation of the spatial and temporal specificity of membrane trafficking. Title: Activation of the Exocyst Tethering Complex for SNARE Complex Regulation and Membrane Fusion

We will have a DEI/Career Panel with the goal of exposing trainees to both academic and non-academic career paths and providing context from diverse experiences in professional scientific careers. Dr. Munson will be one of our panelists together with two local alumnae from our department: Dr. Stephani Page (Founder of #BLACKandSTEM & Director of Strategic Initiatives, WEPAN) & Dr. Brooke Heidenfelder (Project Leader at Duke Clinical and Translational Science Institute).
