November Speaker Series: Radical Self Care

Join us for a presentation on Radical Self Care by Dr. Charla Blumell and Alicia Freeman, LMHC, LCAS.

"Pivot" was the 2020 word of the year in higher education, across most campuses. With many students, professionals and faculty engaging remotely, a new normal was presented. We are continuing to re-envision our community, remotely and in-person. This workshop will allow space for students to discuss how they are managing the current climate and academic-life integration and what strategies they have implemented during this ongoing pandemic. As well as discussing additional strategies that stretch and support their continued wellbeing.

Dr. Charla Blumell is the Assistant Director of Health Promotion and Prevention Strategies at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Office of Student Wellness. Her work focuses on primary and secondary program expansion, utilizing a holistic lens, supporting educational initiatives designed to cultivate a healthy community. She is dedicated to prevention efforts that center minoritized communities in the pursuit of comprehensive wellbeing.

Alicia Freeman serves as the Program Coordinator for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention/Mental Health Awareness and Stigma Reduction. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist. Her passion for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention/Mental Health Awareness and Stigma Reduction is deeply rooted in her life experiences and the health disparities faced by minority populations, specifically Native Americans. She takes special interest in social justice for underrepresented and marginalized groups.
