This talk will explore the experiences of LGBTQ students in North Carolina schools, using YRBS data to identify trends over time, current NC policy and practice, and the impact of school climate on health outcomes for North Carolina LGBTQ youth. We will then discuss the How to Be an Ally training conducted from 2016-2018 in North Carolina schools. The focus of this portion of the discussion will be on the qualitative assessment of this training to understand its impact. Finally, the discussion will wrap up with policy and practice recommendations for North Carolina schools to function as allies for their LGBTQ students.
This discussion will be lead by Christiana Lancaster (she/her/hers), a second year MPH Candidate in the Maternal and Child Health Department.
