Planning for retirement involves financial, professional, and personal considerations that can benefit from early reflection and informed decision-making. This session will offer practical guidance from HR along with faculty-informed perspectives to help participants better understand retirement planning within the academic environment. Attendees will gain insight into key considerations, available resources, and lessons learned. While relevant at any stage of the faculty career lifecycle, this session is especially valuable for UNC School of Medicine faculty considering full retirement, phased retirement, and other retirement transitions.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will: 

1. Understand available HR resources, benefits, and processes related to retirement
2. Recognize common challenges and opportunities faculty encounter when planning for retirement
3. Reflect on personal and professional factors that inform long-term planning decisions
