The Research Runway Program for undergraduates is a 4-month career training program created by the NC TraCS Institute at UNC.  The program is designed to help undergraduate students learn more about clinical research and careers and to prepare for internships, jobs, graduate school, and professional programs.  We invite you to participate in a study to get your feedback on whether the program is useful and feasible for undergraduate students.  If you complete steps 1 and 2 below you will receive two digital badges.  A digital badge is a visual credential that verifies completion of training. The badge can be added to your resume, LinkedIn profile, or professional portfolio to showcase your skills.

The steps are:

Step 1:  An online training in clinical research vocabulary, research skills, career roles, required training and how to network with clinical research professionals.  There are optional sessions when you can talk to current research professionals via Zoom.  This training is self-paced and estimated to take up to 15 hours.  Registration for the course closes May 6, 2026.  The course will open May 12, 2026 and you will have 2 months to complete the course.

Step 2:  After you complete step 1, you are eligible for up to 15 hours of career immersion experiences with professionals working in clinical research.  Some experiences can be done remotely while others are on the UNC campus.

Step 3:  A final 1-hour meeting to help you figure out next steps after the training.

We will ask you to complete several surveys to tell us your opinions on the program, whether the digital badges were helpful and if the training influenced your choices for coursework, research experiences or career interests.

To be eligible, you must be:

Enrolled as a rising sophomore or higher undergraduate student at either UNC, NC State or NC A&T.
Be at least 18 years old.

Enrollment will close on May 6, 2026
