This documentary follows six South African health pioneers who fled apartheid and, as members of the faculty at UNC Chapel Hill’s schools of public health, dentistry, and medicine, as well as Duke, helped transform community medicine in North Carolina and across the American South. Drawing on lessons from rural KwaZulu-Natal, they inspired the first community health center in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. Blending photographs, interviews, and maps, the film traces the global impact of their cross-cultural public health vision.
