North Carolina is one of the leading life sciences hubs in the United States, offering a wide range of career opportunities for PhDs and postdocs across industry, government, and nonprofit sectors. This session will provide an overview of the state’s life sciences ecosystem, highlighting major industry sectors, key employers, and common entry points for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. Participants will also learn where to find North Carolina–specific resources, professional networks, and job leads. The session will be led by Tracey du Laney, Vice President of Science and Technology Development at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. Pizza will be provided for attendees. This event is part of the Industry Skills Series run in collaboration by TIBBS & OPA.
Tracey du Laney, PhD, is Vice President of Science and Technology Development at NCBiotech, where she leads research grant funding programs that advance North Carolina–based scientific discoveries toward commercialization and works closely with economic development and emerging company teams to support the state’s life sciences ecosystem. She holds degrees in biomedical and biochemical engineering from Duke University and the University of Texas at Austin and completed postdoctoral training at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke. Her career spans academia, startup formation, industry R and D, and life sciences consulting, including work that contributed to the founding of Humacyte in Research Triangle Park.
