Visual episode profiles, developed by ResearchTalk, is a practice inviting researchers to visually map key quotations in interviews or focus groups and to think holistically about textual data. Using the network view tool in ATLAS.ti (desktop version 25), researchers can develop diagrams that show how quotations are conceptually and contextually linked across a transcript. Researchers can then develop a synthesized diagram—using illustrative quotations—across transcripts to show relevant similarities and contrasts—as well as larger takeaways. Though analysts can code quotations from the network view and use codes as labels in these diagrams, this practice is not necessarily dependent on traditional coding. The course will focus on the ATLAS.ti for the PC but similar features are available on the Mac.
