Ultrasound (POCUS) Workshop – An Introduction to POCUS

Description

This comprehensive 15-hour, two-day course is designed for family physicians. It will benefit those practicing in the inpatient or outpatient settings who are looking to enhance their point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) skills. Led by nationally recognized family physicians who are experts in ultrasound education, the course offers a hands-on, interactive learning experience with a low instructor-to-learner ratio of 3:1, ensuring personalized instruction. Participants will engage in live model scanning, utilizing state-of-the-art ultrasound simulators, and didactic lectures, covering key POCUS applications relevant to family medicine, including pulmonary, renal and bladder, biliary, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening, cardiac, musculoskeletal (MSK) and soft tissue, and procedural ultrasound. To enhance the learning experience, attendees will have access to cart-based ultrasound machines for hands-on practice, as well as handheld ultrasound devices to trial, allowing them to explore different equipment options for clinical use. Whether new to ultrasound or looking to refine their skills, participants will gain the knowledge, confidence, and practical experience needed to integrate POCUS into their daily practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

This workshop is sponsored by the UNC Department of Family Medicine.
