At this workshop, participants will begin discovering how art can create powerful messages through community service! Everyone is welcome- no artistic inclination is needed. Presenters will focus on art evoking empathy and serving as a story-telling vehicle. Presenters also will provide tangible examples of ways to include art in various volunteer opportunities. An ambassador from the Jamil Niner Student Pantry at UNC-Charlotte will join to lead a discussion on ways community partners can use art and connect with artists to aid their mission. The Jamil Niner Student Pantry actively works to ensure food security, human dignity and well-being on the UNC-Charlotte campus by providing students in need with healthy and culturally appropriate emergency food. At the end of the workshop, attendees hopefully will walk away equipped with examples of how to connect service, social justice and art.
