At this panel discussion, participants will hear from Triangle-area educators who have used the National High School Ethics Bowl as a vehicle for civic education and dialogue across disagreement. Headquartered at UNC-Chapel Hill, the ethics bowl unites thousands of high school students in a community of practice dedicated to respectful, supportive and rigorous ethical discussion. Led by local teacher-mentors who serve as coaches, the ethics bowl gets students thinking, talking and working together on the toughest moral and political issues of the day. By focusing on collaborative dialogue, participation helps students become more thoughtful, engaged citizens who can better navigate moral complexity. Learn from teachers in the program about how they adapt it in innovative ways to meet community needs.
