Learning Objectives 
1. Describe how the culture of medicine can endanger the health and safety of patients. 
2. Explain the role of emotions, cognition, and communication regarding medical error. 
3. Explore opportunities to improve the delivery of care while navigating an imperfect health care environment. 
4. Examine the landscape of diversity, equity and inclusion in academic medicine, including healthcare practice and medical education. 
5. Practice inclusive language and by-stander skills to defuse difficult situations and deescalate bias in learning environments. 
6. Explain the foundational difference between learning, memory, and cognition. 
7. Predict when information processing will be biased because of existing memory or cognition.
